After a failed upgrade from 10.04 LTS to 12.04 LTS (it reached a point that it wanted input from me in the terminal [sudoers file] but I could not select the terminal to give it input. Basically locked, had to power cycle) I'm getting this error. and am unable to resolve it. RESULTS.txt:

Actually I just realized the post is bootinfoscript results for boot to the 12.04 ISO. I'm unable to get to a terminal booting from the HDD with the issue (with any of the choices in the boot menu).
Any help would be appreciated.

By using the "Something else" option and the partition tool therein I have been able to restore the mount point for the partition and install 12.04 "on top" (no format) of the old. Now the situation is the default boot OS selection produces the subject error but the first "older version" (3.2.23) works. RESULTS.txt:
