I wanted to create a bootable CD of the latest Ubuntu desktop. In the past, the download would create a single ISO file which I burned onto a CD. Now, the download creates a zip file which contains a folder with lots of files. How do I create the bootable CD with that? Thanks!

did you download your iso from this url ?

http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/

if you want an up to dated iso:

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ZsyncCdImage

to burn , better to use k3b soft

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/BurningIsoHowto

or better use unetbootin

http://unetbootin.sourceforge.net/

I was on the Ubuntu Website

http://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop

And I clicked Start Download by Ubuntu Desktop.

It downloaded the zip file ubuntu-12.04-desktop-i386. When I unzipped it, it created a folder with the same name and a whole bunch of subfolders and files. Not the single ISO file I was expecting. What should I do?

Don't extract the ISO, burn it to a CD (or USB) as an image.

I apologize but I don't follow what you are saying. In the past, the downloaded file was an ISO which I just burned to a disk. There was no zip file and nothing extracted. Now, I get a zipped folder and files. Why do I need to go to other sites and figure out other links? Did ubuntu change how they distribute the OS? I've done this many times before and never had an issue. If you can point me to the download link to the ISO file for 12.04, that would be very helpful.

I just figured it out. I am supposed to burn the zipped file to the disk. This was not what I expected, but I guess it will work. Thanks everyone for your help!

As far as I know there are no *.zip files, only *.iso files available from http://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop
