View Full Version : [ubuntu] Dumb question about virtualization

June 20th, 2012, 09:40 PM
I'm in the process of setting up Virtualbox with Ubuntu 12.04 running on Windows 7.

When I go to the install screen on the virtual Ubuntu, I'm given the following option:

"Erase disk and install Ubuntu
Warning: This will delete any files on the disk."

I'm 99% confident that I don't have to worry about that warning--that it refers only to the virtual disk. But...I'd feel a lot better if someone more experienced than me could give me a little reassurance. I'd hate to inadvertently nuke my entire hard drive.

That's not really going to delete all my files...right?

Thanks for any input.

It's a scary warning the first time around.

Easy to set your own mind at ease, though. Check the size of the disk you are installing to. It will be the size of the virtual disk you just created, which will be smaller than your physical disk. Compare the sizes.

If you are still not convinced, post the sizes and we'll take a look.

Just wanted to make sure!

That's very helpful. Thanks.
