Make Gnome look like Unity

Hello All,

On my previous installation of Ubuntu 12.04 I was using the gnome classic desktop(no effects), but it looked and functioned just like unity 2d.

I would use unity 2d but the video playback is choppy in full screen, this is an older laptop, gnome no effects does not have this issue.

Ive tried to set the startup applications to include the unity launcher and unity panel, but it doesnt work.

However, the launcher and panel do work when activated via alt+f2. Ive installed gnome tweak but have yet to find the setting to make gnome no effects look and, more importantly, function like unity.

Thank you

Gnome shell will have a similar Unity feel. Not really sure exactly what look you are asking for. Look for gnome-shell in the Ubuntu Software Center. On reboot or log out/in you can select "Gnome".

I figured it out.

On my previous install I also had Lubuntu desktop installed.

I just re-installed Lubuntu desktop and now I have a new desktop to log into called "GNOME (Open Box)," which is essentially Unity 2D, but much less resource intensive. Unity 1D perhaps?

Thanks for helping me clear my thoughts :)
