I am installing a Ubuntu-based distro on a Macbook Pro that uses a custom kernel. I have been warned it is therefore a bad idea to enable the regular Ubuntu repositories, as the software from them could/will mess up the operating system. In order of some of the necessary features to work though (fan control, temperature sensors, etc) I need to have mactel software installed. So my question is, can I, if a precompiled binary exists, install software with that? Or should I just find the source code and recompile it?
