Now it is too late for what I just did but in case I would need it another time, I'm just curious about the following question :

Starting from a computer with ubuntu that does not have any tex distribution installed, and if the only thing I need is the ability to run the pdftex command, then does there exist any method to get it which does not require to install some >300 MB of stuff and have the pleasure to see these >300MB reloaded and reinstalled all over again, monopolizing bandwidth and other resources, at every upgrade of the Ubuntu system (starting from Ubuntu 10... a few days ago I made a system upgrade to 11.04 then installed texlive then upgraded the system from 11.04 to 11.10 and then from 11.10 to 12.04 and saw each time that it took a lot of time reloading texlive with all its docs for latex which I never needed, forcing other guests of the hostel at other computers to wait until the connection will be free) ?
Thanks.
