View Full Version : Life CD Install Failure

I recently found out about Ubuntu and gave it a try on one of my computer only using the live CD. Not installing it though. On another computer an HP Pavilion 6640C I tried installing it but had a problem stopping me every time. First the splash screen on boot up failed and I removed it (using F6) and added memory (256MB) and put a new Sony DVD drive in to the computer. Still there was a problem stopping me this time it was the partitions system in the installer. Which took me 3 hours to get to only for it to crash. Then I finally got it to partly work using manual Partition and it went to the installer and began installing Ubuntu. I let it install when I came back it was not writing to the HD or reading from the CD and was stuck at 97%. The time on it was and hour before. It's frozen isn't it? How do I get it to install and work? I can put the HD in another computer that the Live CD was fast on and install it from there, but would it work still when I put it back in the other computer? Thanks...

I think moving the HDD around will work. I never could install from the desktop CD but installed 5.10 instead and used update manager to get dapper. Have a very fast network connection.

Thanks... I tryed restarting it and it loaded Ubuntu from the HD! Amazingly... I'm not sure if everything is there but it seems to work. Thanks...
