I took the linux distribution test here: http://www.zegeniestudios.net/ldc/index.php?firsttime=true and for the results I got Ubuntu and Fedora. Weird, huh, since I have both installed on my system!!

The problem with this test is the Distro list isn't very good. No BSD's, no Yoper, Dreamlinux, dyne:bolic, Morphix.

It's like listening to the top 40 radio same damn songs over and over again. This lead to the death of radio. will these kind of test pushing only the obvious lead to the death of Distros or just to the death of these kind of test?

Well, why don't you contact them and input the parameters of those missing OSes so they can be integrated to that "test". I think it's a fine tool. Sure it has it's shortcomings but it sure is much better than the usual XP vs. 2K debate...

Sure it has it's shortcomings but it sure is much better than the usual XP vs. 2K debate...yes i agree with you. that tool is a great accomplishment, and a lot of hard work, so I think we should be congratulating them, but maybe give them a few suggestions. you can actually post comments after you take the test, why don't you try that, yozef?

Well, I can understand wanting those other Linux distros on there, but why on earth should any BSD be on there? If they did that, they may as well put HP-UX, AIX and Solaris on there too. Then of course, it wouldn't really be a Linux distribution chooser anymore.

i noticed I think it recommends ubuntu for almost everything you throw at it - one being a complete and utter newbie answers, and other being my own prefs.
I couldn't get arch on my list and arch is what i like most.

Funny they selected Slackware considering I chose Gnome as my perfered desktop, and Slackware doesn't ship Gnome, though it is available through Dropline Gnome and the likes.

My apologies if I offended anyone with my thoughts on this, but while I took the test once again I find it limiting. It did reccomend Ubuntu as my top choice in really pretty graphical representation the whole way from beginning to end.

I did take the other Distro test which I like a bit better, while I admit the questions aren't as polished the Distro selection is about the same. What it does do different which I like is it gives percentages in the end.

I also like simplicity.

now the other nice thing about this distro chooser is it gives you the source code easily:

It appears this test predates the newer one, seeing how the test are almost identical with just a change of questions a little bit I wonder if the new one wasn't built on the older one are inspired from it atleast.

I will say that both test are fun to take.

ubuntu and mandriva. fc, open suse and kubuntu were on the list, but kubuntu and fc failed the 'good for beginners' criteria (how can that be for kubuntu?).
