Not liking Unity too much I thought I'd have a go with KDE - so I installed it on my 12.04 Ubuntu.
It finished. I rebooted, got a different graphical boot screen with the KDE logo on it. Then the screen went black on one side and looked a bit like uninitialised memory on another; that was it.
I booted in recovery mode - one option it gave was to restore my configuration. I had a go, rebooted - graphical boot screen, then it dumped me into a shell like screen (without prompt). (It said battery OK).
So how can I recover my desktop?
It's a Fujitsu laptop with SIS671 gfx.
Thanks for looking
