With everything in a simple drop down menu at the top. "applications, internet" etc. I don't need fancy graphics at the side of the page. I can't even find my second hard drive to mount it. I was using Ubuntu because I didn't like ******* & mac, How can I get a nice, simple, straightforward interface?

In 12.04 that is gnome-panel. It is based on gnome3 not the old now obsolete gnome2. It is close, some things have moved around a bit, but not much more than some upgrades.

gnome3 clasic
sudo apt-get install gnome-panel
On login screen click on cog-wheel/star and choose

or:
Open the Ubuntu Software Centre and search for ‘gnome-panel’, hit install and log out.
To move/add/edit panels or applets press Alt+Right Click

There was nothing in the search in the software center & I can't locate the terminal. Why are they trying to make this like mac & *******. Where the hell do I find the terminal now?
