im assuming it all has to do with nautilus, the file windows program. if its in icon view nautilus completely and suddenly quits all of its open windows if i try to open either w/ enter or double click. gedit has also quit when trying to open up files sometimes and quits nautilus at the same time. ive tried many keyword searches on the web for a solution but havnt seen this particular problem. i have uninstalled/reinstalled nautilus. i am running the linux machine through an xp machine on tightvnc viewer and have run nautilus via command line sudo and still no avail. linux is on an older dell.
running ubuntu 10.10, dont want to upgrade or reinstall if i can as i would have to reinstall a lot of other programs and databases.
