Well I gave Suse 10.1 a try. I loved the polished professional look but Suse frustrated the hell out of me!

no synaptic :( (apparently it is available but I couldn't get it installed!)
no apt get preinstalled!
no automatix equivalent!!! I couldn't get the media codecs installed!
couldn't get Kasablance to install.

and it took AGES to boot!!

I didn't bother sticking around to see what else I didn't like.

Fresh install of Dapper for me!

In other words: you noticed that SUSE is not 1:1 identical to Ubuntu?

i realised that I have been spoilt by Ubuntu and it's ease of use.

It's an interesting point for the future. The best Linux in terms of the desktop happens to be the one shackled with that crime that is being free.

I also tried SUSE for a while. I didn't hate it. It didn't work perfectly, but then neither did Ubuntu. Like _simon_, I really liked the professional appearance of SUSE. Ultimately, though, it just wasn't "for me." I think that Ubuntu and SUSE might just appeal to different people.

Used to use SUSE, was really impressed by it. Their installer is far better than the Dapper one, and by better I mean it gives you far more customisable options without sacrificing usability.

However I find Ubuntu runs quicker, and SUSE 10.1 had some annoying bugs so I installed Dapper. I'll be keeping an eye on SUSE development though.

Oh forgot to mention

- you don't need synaptic, SUSE has YAST.
- you dont need apt, but it is available.
- you don't need Automatix, just follow the Jem Report instructions.

You are really remind me ignorant ******* rants: "Where's start button? Why there's no exe files? Linux sux!111oneoneeleveneleven cos(0) sin(90)"

Why the hell in the world RPM based distro should use DEB apps _by default_?!
