For all of you who are looking to buy a new pc WITHOUT paying for a preinstalled Windows XP they won't use
I am quite happy to say that here in the UK I just bought for my wife this cheap laptop/notebook
system
http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/nbrange.html?RVP

I chose 1G of ram and ubuntu dapper drake works well including built-in wireless, fn keys and hibernation !
(kubuntu kde's power management not as well as ubuntu's gnome one).

I saved £50+VAT but most of all I was happy to see there is a way to avoid being forced to buy windows and that I avoided giving some of my money to these monster corporations ...

I later discovered another company that offers the same in many EU countries:
http://www.zepto.com/

It's a shame though that the major brands don't offer this opportunity to their customers.
It might up to canonical to try to convince a few I guess and work this way towards fixing http://launchpad.net/bugs/1

Unfortunately it is an American based(localised keyboards, different languages,...) company(not that there is anything wrong with it. Dell&Apple started this way and now they provide the same support outside the US,).

For people outside America there might be better solutions

that may be true, but nothing in the thread title nor the first post excludes america.

Is it possible to order a dual boot PC from System76??

I need to replace my aging desktop and have been eyeing their desktop systems for sometime... I assume windows will work (I need it for games) on their systems correct?

Also, does anyone have any testimonials?

If you want to order a dual-boot system, I think Emperor Linux can make one for you.

It's not hard anymore with ubuntu to setup a dual boot system yourself. If you have not tried it, you owe it to yourself and pocketbook to give it a try ;)

If you are not willing to do it yourself, then it should be worth it to you to pay someone else to do it.
