Clam update error

I get this error when i type sudo freshclam in the terminal

ERROR: Please edit the example config file /etc/clamav/freshclam.conf
ERROR: Can't open/parse the config file /etc/clamav/freshclam.conf

Type the following


nano /path/to/freshclam.conf

and make sure Example is commented out.

After doing that....when i type sudo freshclam, I get..

ERROR: Can't create temporary directory /var/lib/clamav/clamav-50a7a5f6dd45550766b7f45b49844073

yes....thanks very much.....it worked.....but can you also tell me how to uptdate the clamav engine and GUI???????

You're using Arch right? Then I would think, as long as you update your system regularly they should be up to date.

Have you infact read the wiki?

I'm using arch....i am talking about clamtk.....when i open that i can see that the GUI and the AV Engine is out of date.....I read the wiki (Had not read earlier)....But, in the wiki, I didn't see a method to update the GUI and the Engine.....

How can I do that?

Also when I do 'check for update' in help option....

It says in 'GUI updates' that a newer version is available....

But it doesnt update....

What am i doing wrong???

Sorry,.....It's not actually an error

But when I went to the clamav website....I saw that I have the latest engine and yet in my PC clamtk shows a somewhat a blue icon with an 'i'....That's what I was actually trying to convey........

The database files are located here,

/var/lib/clamav/daily.cvd
/var/lib/clamav/main.cvd

So in theory you could load your downloaded definitions into their.

I don't use any AV on my arch install so I do not have any experience with clam.

What does,


freshclam -v

do for you?

You have also not given any details about your setup.

WM? DE? Network Connections??????

Makes it kind of hard to troubleshoot.

Do this.


Configuration

Whether you are going to use clamav as a daemon or use it as a simple file checker you need to comment out the line that contains the word Example, usually it is found at the beginning of /etc/clamav/freshclam.conf and /etc/clamav/clamd.conf files.

A simple google search about the GUI update sourced the answer.
