Well after using Ubuntu from 8.04 I have had to change. My 10.10 is no longer supported and was beginning to have strange faults. I intended to go with 12.04 and Unity but it just will not work with the graphics card in this laptop. (ATI X1250) Even Unity 2D did not work, the icons in the launcher were black. Tried Xubuntu 12.04 and that had problems, so now I'm running Linux Mint 13 with the Cinnamon DE and all is well.
For reference this laptop is a Compaq 6715b, 2xTurion, 2GHz, 4GB memory.

But I will still browse this forum and when I can afford a new laptop I'll give Ubuntu another try.

Kind regards to all you forum folk, see you soon.

Guess why i'm sticking with 11.10 (my 1.53GHz, 2GB, ATI HD2400XT laptop works great on it)?

Cool thing about running Mint is other than the DE and a few tools you ARE running Ubuntu :)

The green side are they. Once you start down the green path, forever will it dominate your destiny...

...Incidentally, this post is a perfect example of why I wish we could have tables in our posts.
Over at another forum, I pestered the admin about the lack of the "table" facility but he just muttered darkly about security considerations and never elaborated.

I've been on other boards that let you build tables. Not really sure why it would be an issue. Then again, so many programs and even OSs over the years have had a sad history of being built like a house of cards that maybe there's some stupid design concepts inherent that make it into a security hole. Who knows.

But I would have loved to have been able to do something like this:

image_01_url_goes_here image_02_url_goes_here image_03_url_goes_here

Light Side
Dark Side
Green Side?

(Incidentally, it's weird that I had to use PHP tags here to show this code. When I used "Code" tags, it still parsed some of the code instead of just showing it.)

Talking about mint:

Linux Mint Mini-PC Coming Soon
Ubuntu isn’t the only Linux distribution that available to buy pre-installed on PCs.

The Ubuntu-based spin ‘Linux Mint’ have been working with computer manufacturer CompuLab since late last year to bring Linux Mint to market on a range of energy efficient and fanless devices.
