I am trying to install ubuntu or lubuntu but both fail and freeze in Try and Install modes (CD and USb stick). I have tried the Alternate Ubuntu Install which does complete but when I boot the HD it also freezes. I have tried the nomodeset switch in Try mode but fails with a B43-cutter (or similar) file not found.
it is an older laptop but has been running earlier versions of Ubuntu for a couple of years. I upgraded to 12.04 just to check and all was well. After deleting the old install (dual boot) now there is no joy in mudville. I am out of ideas. Any help is really appreciated!
EDIT: Well, no response but I did get Precise reloaded. It seems 11.10 and 12.04 will not install/run on my older Celeron M Gateway. I dropped back to 11.04 which installed nicely. I then ugraded in turn to 11.10 and 12.04. It would have been nice if Ubuntu developers had not shut out the older systems.
