After a badly implemented update to 12.04LTS, I am pretty much ocked out of my system and I think performing rescue mode => dpkg "rapair broken packages" should fix the issue, except that my USB modem relies on getting further in so that I can use it.

However - I can indeed successfully boot the live CD or USB drive for the 12.04 LTS distro and then I do have internet access. Is there some way I could boot from there and tell it to connect to the internet and continue to install any unfinished packages on behalf of the borked install?
