The Ubuntu community has more talent and skill than the average Windows or Mac communities. Please consider there's lots of "Ubuntnoobs", but they're more savvy than all the Windows or Mac noobs. So if you remove the linux pros in the Ubuntu community, what mostly remains is the most capable type of newbies on the planet. This is the real user-base of Ubuntu. But was Ubuntu designed for this group? No. It was meant for Windows and Mac noobs; noobs who don't even know what browser they're using, let alone what OS they use.

Ubuntu 12.04 strives to shelter the user. Its developers protect you from messing up the interface, by taking great steps in restricting customization.

The HUD has so much potential, but it's not as powerful as it could be. It too is sheltering the user, by offering no customization and extensions.

ubuntuforums.org is not a community of Ubuntu developers and users. It's a dumping ground for ideas and problems. No Ubuntu developer will ever read this. They don't need to. They already know what's "best".

Remember, you're not who Ubuntu is for. The kind of user Ubuntu developers crave is not the same person that goes onto ubuntuforums.org, reddit.com/r/ubuntu, askubuntu.com, and the other ubuntu forums. Their target market are people who don't even care what their OS is called. This is not you. You're better than that.

You know how to make yourself work faster. You should have control over your GUI. You're far better at tweaking an OS to your liking than anyone who makes Ubuntu. They forgot that, but you shouldn't.

Thanks for telling me what I want and need, as well as what I am or am not. Without your help, I'd never be able to figure it out.
