View Full Version : [all variants] Current state of SSD support

I'm looking at purchasing an SSD card for my next PC. This is a new area of technology for me, so I qualify as a noob and know very little about how SSDs work in relation to the OS.

From my early reading up on the subject, there were various things that needed doing to get an SSD to work efficiently with an OS - such arcane things as TRIM commands and the like that had to be explicitly configured in the OS. What I'd like to know is:

What's the state of play with this and related things in Ubuntu 12.04? Will it all work out of the box, or is some fiddling still required? If fiddling is required, what's a good place to learn about it?
