I did an upgrade to 12.04 and it went extremely well. All my programs still work! I'm not a fan of the disappearing programs, but it was my best Ubuntu upgrade ever. I am impressed...except.

Since the upgrade My canon printer died and I replaced it with a new Canon Pixma 512 multi mode. Canon does not support Ubuntu in the USA. I've downloaded a potential driver from Europe that I believe will work but am unable to install it. I've tried terminal and I get a message that terminal can't find the RPM file, alien can't find the file, etc. etc. I installed the package manager command line program for RPM but don't know how to use it.

I've been trying everything I know for 3 days and still am unable to install the software from Canon. I have a license for turbo print from Germany that worked well before the upgrade and subsequent printer failure. Unfortunately, the printer is so new they don't have a driver yet. Any other way I can print with Ubuntu 12.04?

Thanks if you can help...
