Hi there,

we're using Ubuntu desktop 8.04 LTS as a server for our intranet. We are currently planning an upgrade to 12.04 LTS, but since we're using Webmin, we're wondering whether Webmin 1.580 is a good fit for this version, as there's a "development version" 1.587 out there to support 12.04.

Will 1.580 work with Ubuntu 12.04? Is the development version only there to add support to some new functionality from 12.04 or THE minimal version working on 12.04?

Anyone had it installed on production, yet?

Thx for the insight!

Thanks for the reply, Paul.

I saw that post earlier, but wasn't exactly the answer I'm looking for, as the asker (patdundee (http://ubuntuforums.org/member.php?u=863009)) is using 1.587 which a dev version, and the one answering him is using 1.580.

I can't see any clue indicating whether they're using it as prod server.

What I'm looking for is ppl using 12.04 Desktop with 1.580 in a production environment.

Thanks anyhow!

You may want to have a look at this HowTo: http://www.havetheknowhow.com (http://www.havetheknowhow.com/) . As part of the media server build, they are using Ubuntu 12.04 (LTS) along with Webmin 1.580 build, as can be seen here - http://www.havetheknowhow.com/Configure-the-server/Install-Webmin.html . If they can accomplish it, I am sure others out there have done so as well.

And here is another example - http://www.kelvinwong.ca/2012/04/29/secure-your-webmin-install-on-ubuntu-12-04-lts/

I am sure all you will need to do is to make necessary modifications to the procedures given for your particular production environment.

Thank you very much; I'm currently sipping through your first links; the last one you mention is the one that sent me here! :)
I have no worry that I should be able to install it; I just meant to know if it was stable enough for a production deployment.
I'll be looking into it!

Thanks again.
