Lost settings for Launcher Toolbar

Hi - I've recently installed Ubuntu 12.04 and used the System Settings|Appearance dialog to change how my Launcher looks and acts. Specifically I reduced the icon size to 32 and changed the auto-hide behaviour.

Since then the icon size control has disappeared, and icon size has reset to the default 48. Any idea how to get this control back? It's still in place for other users.
