I had the problem of being sent back to the login screen after typing in my password. After experiencing quite a bit of frustration, I figured out that my trouble has been caused by files in my home folder having the wrong owner. I fixed the problem by switching to tty1, & changing my home folder content's ownership back to my user name. This occurred after using arkose.
I'm posting this both to help others with the same problem & to ask how to prevent it happening again.
