View Full Version : [kubuntu] Installation of 12.04 not working

I tried to upgrade my 11.xx (can't remember exactly which) which crashed (I unplugged the mouse). Wouldn't reboot properly (screen displaying solid colors: red, then blue, then green, then white, then black, and back to red, blue, ... over and over).

I burned a CD with kubuntu 12.04 on it. When booting from it, I have the kubuntu CD GUI then choose "Start Kubuntu". After 10 seconds, the screen starts doing its display of solid color (see paragraph above).

The laptop is a Dell M1730 and is known to have a defective hardware 3D video board, but it has worked with kubuntu before, and I can see the CD GUI anyways, so it should be working.

Any ideas?

Hi and welcome to the forums :-)

What graphics card do you have installed?

Thanks.

The card is Nvidia GeForce 8700M-GT. Only the 3D acceleration part of the card is defective. It used to work with Ubuntu 11.xx and I can see the GUI when booting from the 12.04 CD.

And thanks for the welcome!

I would try using nomodeset when booting.
