I am having the same problem [see http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1592148]. I did install ubuntu dual boot on my toshiba and it was all fine back then. 3 months later, the bios does not even have an option for CD drive. I am not sure if it is the Master/Slave IDE settings, but I am not even sure how to start diagnosing this problem

slave or master is hard drive setting if you have 2 the one with the OS on it is master or first the second would be slave in general these many times you dont want to switch these in bio's ..

your CD would be list as just that or cd/dvd you could be looking in the wrong area in the bio's ..

you also might want to check oin the manufacturers web site and see if there is a bios update for your computer if so follow there guide lines to down load and install the update ..
