Google Earth installs but won't run in Ubuntu 12.04

Hi, I have installed Google Earth in Ubuntu 12.04 (32-bit, Dell laptop). When I try to start the program, the splash screen appears (looking normal) for a few seconds, and then disappears, followed by... nothing. Any suggestions gratefully received! Thanks

I just had this issue. 04/07/13.
I am using Ubuntu 12.04 32 bit.
I have installed the ubuntu desktop, the KDE and the Gnome as well.
I had to re-install the ubuntu desktop.
Now it is working correctly.
