Unwahrscheinlich

At the login screen, I changed the desktop environment to "Ubuntu 2D" to see what it was. I then logged out and tried logging in with the "User defined session" option. Only the background came up. I rebooted and now that's all I get when I log in with the regular "Ubuntu" option.
If I run unity manually ("DISPLAY=:0 unity --reset &" from tty1) the panel and launcher start up, but it's with the default settings and of course is only a temporary fix.
How do I make unity start normally again and get my profile settings back?
After a couple more reboots it starts on login again.
--reset
This option allows the user to reset profile parameters in compiz
and restart the Unity shell with default settings.
Is there any way to get the profile parameters back?
