GNOME Launcher Icons Dead

I'm in 12.04 LTS. My Gnome Launcher flies out but the icons are "dead"; nothing happens when I click them. Is there a routine that I can run simply to refresh GNOME? Thx, kraml

alt-f2 type r and enter this restarts gnome 3
