A bit of background:

I have a Asus N53S laptop

It has a nVidia 630M gfx card with an intel gfx card on the processor.
It DOES have optimus. However, I do not want to use the nvidia card on ubuntu.

I had 12.04 installed and it worked very well. The intel card could handle Unity 3d and all was well. Then suddenly it refused to boot. It showed the ubuntu loading screen and a cursor would appear. Then it would refuse to respond to any input. The caps lock was not flashing and the Xorg log was empty.

After reinstalling 12.04, it booted properly but into Unity 2D. I removed the nvidia drivers and rebooted and the intel drivers worked and I got Unity 3D. Then I updated and I got the same crashing behaviour above.

Does anyone have any idea what update would be causeing this? Are there any other logs that I should post that would help?
