I've found someone with a similar problem, though I don't know if it's exact. The thread told me to download bootinfoscript, so I did and here is the output:

I am dual-booting with windows 7, and this is the first time this has happened to me, having previously tried out MoonOS, Ubuntu 11.04, and 11.10 previously on this same laptop with no similar errors, they all at least boot up with grub. I am using a Sony Vaio laptop.

Did you put the sdb drive before the sda drive in the bios?

If that gets you to ubuntu run.

This is very strange, win7 to boot directly with grub.

Try setting the other disk as first boot option in BIOS. I think the grub2 from the latest install is on the other hdd.

Yeah grub in both mbr's.

Hm, I am kind of familiar with linux, though a lot of that went over my head. What exactly should I do, and what exactly is the problem? I do have three partitions now, one for windows 7, a storage one, and now the ubuntu 12.04 one.

You have more than three partitions but lets not get into that now. Just because some partition doesn't show in win7 Computer, it doesn't mean it doesn't exist. :)

Windows has really spoilt (and ruined) computer users. :)

The change of hdd boot priority depends on your BIOS. Look around. One type of option is for devices, like cd-rom, hdd, usb, etc.

But there should be another option strictly for hdd order. For example, you have two disks, how would it know which to try for a bootloader first? That's what I am talking about. In some BIOSes this might be combined in the same option, so you might have like HDD-1 and HDD-2, it depends.

Find that option and set the other disk as first.

The bios is accessed at powering on usually with a f2 key press right away. If this gets you in you can navigate in there and switch what the computer reads firs to boot from. WE are trying to get the sdb HD to be read first. You have two HD's in the boot script one is sda, that is where windows is installed, and ubuntu in the sdb.

If f2 does not work just google your computer model and bios and you will find the correct key or keys to hit to open it.

Just to add to what darkod and wilee-nilee are saying here are 2 links that can help:

The first link shows you how to enter BIOS, the second one the section you are likely to see that will show you which devices/disks you have and the order in which they are booted.

The suggestion is that you set sdb or HDD-2 or however it is shown as the first boot device for the HDD.
