Playing with basic textures

Hmm, so, I didnt find any good long read throughs for guides on making textures so I will fumble my way through and put up any I make that I like the look of. To the expert artists on this forum excuse my fumblings ^^

Ill start with an attempt to mimic the patchy look on the Pangolin wallpaper with the cartoon pangolin on.

I was trying to make a soft dark brown.

I made a simple gradient, added fog, the realised it was almost bang on the look I was after.

Thinking about it, a nice feather brush down the side, a splash of red and green and that might make a nice Quatzel wallpaper.

Nice work!

One think I like to do when I'm adding the finishing touch to a wallpaper is to add the color last. One really easy way to do this in Gimp:

Create a new transparent layer over the image
Choose a foreground color (I choose brown for this)
Fill the new layer with that color (will hide your image)
Change the layer property to "overlay"
Adjust opacity and tint of color layer as desired
