I have Windows XP SP2,

Recently I tried installing Ubuntu 12.

The installation was not that smooth, it took considerable time, during the primary installation of copying files, the installation gave an error

Error 5 input/out error.

then i tried with another new burn CD.

again the same error.

Its states that installer has crashed.

I cannot even try live CD,

History behind the crashes.

It all started when I first install ubuntu 10 along with Windows XP.

It was going well until, firefox crashed in Ubuntu and further was unable to log into ubuntu.

Even firefox+chrome+IE began to crash in Windows XP.

Then all started to crash, whenever I try to install any new program, it could give out error about installer crash.
(I know this is not Windows forums, but I suspect ubuntu crash might have affect Windows too).

As i had no knowledge about ubuntu,
I simply deleted the partition and was unable to access Windows too.
so i reintalled Windows XP.

then created a new partition and tried to install ubuntu again.
Again, it gave out multiple errors.
like cannot unmount the partition/drive.. etc..

Is the problem linked to corrupted GRUB in earlier version of ubuntu 10, when it crashed, I directly deleted the partition.

could this be creating problems.

Can be done to fix the problem and run Ubuntu again.

Thanks

I would say either a bad burn or a bad download. I would start by verifying that the downloaded iso is valid. These links may help:

Sorry, the bad burn and verification are out at least on my versions, I've burned at the slowest speed, and done the verifications all kinds and even burned in on a Mac, a working Linux system, and a PC running XP, one using Win7, and Vista... all come back with this error.

I've tried the last version 12, and I am getting this error too. I thought it may be GRUB so I tried the Alternative CD and no go.
