12.04 64bit wont install on desktop

Well i have the LIVE usb and the same works fine on my laptop. But if i try to install it on my desktop, it gives me this error..
udevd[240]: 'some long stuff here' [242] terminated by signal 11 (Segmentation fault)

what am i supposed to do? Its not even taking me to the live desktop. Please help...

I'd try the alternate install disc.

you might also want to try a failsafe mode live session here's a page that tells you how.

I'm pretty sure it has something to do with your video card as the crash your getting is x-server related.

could you let us know what this machine is and what video card your using.

I had to do this with my Nvidia 9600GT:
To install Ubuntu, boot from the cd press any key at accessibility circle and keyboard, press F6 and then select the nomodeset option.
USB boot - At the menu press tab on the first option to edit the boot options and replaced the 'splash' option with 'nomodeset'.
then
On first boot after install, press e on getting the GRUB bootloader.
Hold shift from BIOS boot to get menu if only one system installed.
Using arrow keys navigate to and delete quiet and splash and type the word nomodeset in their place
