I have read multiple threads with issues on the acer laptops with 12.04. I have an acer 5250. Install 12.04 and ran fine all day yesterday. Ran all updates, no freezes on login. Top shows compiz starting to peak and then locks up. Cannot control alt f4, or even move the mouse. Is there a fix for this?

fixed: changing the boot order to have the network boot first solves the issue. Makes no sense at all but it works. Thanks for not posting jack squat like usual

Sommasaywhat? What does "boot order" have to do with the network? GRUB2 sets the boot order, right?

My 12.04 install freezes sometimes when I go to restart or shutdown my PC. It only does it when I use a Desktop Environment with Compiz. For example, Xubuntu or Gnome classic no effects, it won't freeze.

It does this with or without proprietary video drivers.

Other than that, I have no freezes. Cinnamon desktop doesn't work well with ATI drivers and is very unstable. Just a FYI.
