I have read in many forums that Emacs is a great editor but why would someone like Emacs better than another simpler IDE like Geany?

I believe it's safe to assume that noone here thinks emacs is better than Geany as an IDE.

Just as soon as you thought it was safe to assume something...

I've used both. I currently use emacs exclusively.

Recurring discussions, 1, 2, 3... :)

Why someone would use emacs as a C IDE? Because they like emacs. Very simple.

Just use whatever you like to use.

I tried Geany after getting used to emacs... Then need to constantly move for the mouse drives me crazy...

I develop software for a living. There is absolutely no way I could keep up with rigourous schedules with emacs -- nor does emacs have the powerful tools I need.

Emacs is so powerful. It's also kind of a lifestyle choice. It takes a lot to master Emacs. Even more so than to master Vim, IMO.
