My favorite LOL is to take a screenshot of the desktop and post it as the wallpaper. This is great for all OS's and have the user scratching their heads for a minute or two.. hehe

Not original, but I have forgotten where I originally read it. It would be amusing, though.

It would be funny to name that script "Firefox" and put it on the desktop.

Edit: it doesn't work, though. Maybe you have to have a CD in for it to work.

Ah, you probably need to specify the device if you've more than one. Try eject /dev/sr0

I just finished one on keyboard remapping, I might have to do one on the cd ejection next, I found it quite amusing at work lol

I think "eject" just ejects a CD if there's already one inserted. The command to open the empty tray is "eject -t", I believe. You could substitute "eject" for another fun command such as "notify-send `fortune -o`"

I read a Linux prank a while back where it's a little Bash script that runs "beep" at random intervals. Pretty annoying.

eject works w or w/o a disc. At least in my system.

I totally need to remember that disc eject prank. I'm not that cruel, but it will sure be tempting to do that to my friend's laptop whenever he reinstalls Ubuntu on it! >:D

One of the better pranks I've pulled was to take a screenshot of the desktop, modify the time on my notification panel to 6:66 (Or something even less natural like 7:77 or 78:LX. xD) with Kolourpaint, put the doctored photo on full-screen, and pretend to idly move the mouse around. Sure grabbed my cousin's attention! =P

Does anyone remember the old Windows prank where at login an "official" looking BSOD was displayed telling the user an error had occurred and the entire disk was being erased -- complete with the sound of a toilet flushing?
