Looking for a good, linux compatible wireless adapter. Preferably PCI-Express and fast.
Any suggestions and personal experiences.
Thanks,

Here's a comprehensive list, although there only seem to be a few PCI express devices: http://linuxwireless.org/en/users/Devices/PCI.
There are also other type of devices, in case you're interested: http://linuxwireless.org/en/users/Devices.
As for personal experience, I have an Edimax EW-7128G (PCI) which works with the rt2x00 driver. Works pretty good and it's directly supported by the kernel.
Cheers.
EDIT: Forgot to tell you, you can always google for a specific brand and model to know if it's compatible with Linux, or if it has issues, etc. That's what I do when I'm about to buy new hardware ;)

I have this one, and it works great out of the box in Arch and should be the same in other distros. It's officially listed to have Linux support, and the CD it came with even includes the source for the required modules! But any modern distro probably has them built in, but nice to know they have them there :) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833320071
Funny story how I got this, it was on Black friday, and it was $14.99 with a $15 mail in rebate. Dead serious, the cost of this card for me was the cost of an envelope and a stamp :D And it works great, so I recommend it.

Thanks guys, yea I was looking for personal preference. Many cases something says XXXX compatible, but that doesnt tell you about the user experiences. That and its hard to tell what someone post on newegg or tiger becuase you cant verify their real technical level. I have more faith in our userbase here on the forums. :)

I bought this off Ebay for $5.
Works great but you have to enable the driver in the kernel.

Anyone know when they will enable the driver by default?

Thanks for the heads up. But I am going for PCI-Express, and I still can use more USB ports. I only got one left open on back.

I told a friend how well this one worked. And it did for him.
Works in his house downstairs and his router is upstairs with a strong signal using Verizon Fios Router.
My setup is COX and I am using a Gateway Wireless G Router.

I would assume that one is good too because I haven't used that one, but I've used a few different Rosewill cards and all of them have worked well under Linux with no hassle. One good thing to do is look through the reviews on the newegg page and see what other Linux users say (you'll usually find some if you search). I looked at the reviews and sys reqs for that one, looks like it should work great in Linux.

Yea. I hope it works, I got it on order now. Bought a external HDD encloser (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817182155) the other day made my Rosewill and it works really really good under linux with a WD Cav Blue 320GB drive I had. So the reviews I looked at were positive for linux and the chipset is of realtek making. For 20USD with shipping I thought why not try it out. If it works good I will get another later own for my new system when I give this one to my daughter this summer.
Thanks for posting everyone :)

Do what I did, and go to bestbuy or whatever and just try it.If it doesn't work, you bring it back. Then try another one.
I personally like going to newegg.com and reading reviews. Nothing beats newegg, and there's a few linux users there.

O' best buy.. Sadly I live 1 hour from the closest ones. Memphis and Tupelo locations. But happily newegg has a warehouse in Memphis so most items get overnighted even with standard 3 day shipping.. Sometimes a piece or two may come from Cali or Jersey, but 9 out of 10 items ship from the Memphis location for me.

Trust in newegg. Just make sure people approve linux use.

Hey I just wanted to post I got that Rosewill wireless card in this afternoon and installed it without a single hic-up. Seems to be running good. Great signal strength, of course the router is 8ft away so it should.. Didnt even have to really do anything for it to start working. Gonna test this out for a while and see how she works and if she holds up.
Cheers,
Joe
