installation issues.

I was recently running WinXP and then decided to dual boot with 11.10.
The dual booting failed. Then I decided to format my hard drive and have only Ubuntu on the system (i had countless errors, which i think are irrelevant, how ever if needed let me know, (they revolved around GRUB))


After the install was completed, I rebooted my system and am now presented with a black screen, with a white underscore.

I cannot type anything at this screen, and when i press any "non modifier" keys a beep is heard.

Any help with this problem would be much appreciated

try booting with the nomodeset kernel option. You can test this from the grub screen by pressing 'e' to edit the kernel line.

How do I access the GRUB screen?
All i get when booting my computer is the screen associated with my BIOS, and then this black screen.....
