Hasn't been officially announced yet

Looks like 2.10 will be more of a landmark though with everything converted to GEGL

The first thing I did was I tried to upgrade gimp. Then I looked for a ppa. Ow-well

I hope they get it out for natty....

Looks like a great release -- lots of nice new features. Hopefully it makes it to 12.04 backports soon!

Have anyone here tried Gimp 2.8 in KDE? When I do something to the image, the toolbox and layer dialogues disappear, and I have click on them from the panel or the menu in order to bring them up again.

They don't disappear when I enable Single-Window mode, though.

Wow, I completely forgot about the 2.8 release! I'm surprised it was delayed this long, but no matter, I got that unofficial build running just fine on Xubuntu; thanks for posting that convenient PPA link, philnux. The new single window mode is pretty sweet, and I love being able to group my paths now! w00t! GIMP just got easier to use, and now I'll have to update the install I have on Windows 7 once an installer is available for that too.

Although it's kinda funny that the Update Manager decided to bug me with an officially supported 2.8 build from the Software Center mere minutes after installing it. Holy crap that was fast!

Yes, GIMP 2.8 works fine in 12.04 release. I got it from:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:otto-kesselgulasch/gimp
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install gimp

Will be sometime before I can say if it is what I'll use.

Sweet! I've been watching the Gimp 2.8 Task chart (http://tasktaste.com/projects/Enselic/gimp-2-8) for a while. The only task left is "Announce Gimp 2.8" with a size of 1.

Gimp 2.8 from Otto-Kesselgulasch PPA works well in the current Quantal too.
There are no special Quantal branch in that PPA, however, and that may cause some dependency issues later when Quantal matures.

It was worth the wait. The single-window mode really makes GIMP far more approachable.

I couldn't wait. Added the PPA...

#### Gimp
## sudo apt-key adv --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com --recv-keys 614C4B38
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/otto-kesselgulasch/gimp/ubuntu precise main
deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/otto-kesselgulasch/gimp/ubuntu precise main

MAN OH MAN! Really loving the single window mode. So much easier to use. Much more fluid. Looking forward to it entering the Ubuntu Precise backports.
