Arkivalieronline (AO)is a Danish Genealogical website.
It requires Java VM runtime.
I've not been using this website in several years.
I was using different PCs back then.
But I was able to use AO using an older Ubuntu and
Firefox and Opera.

Now I'm running Ubuntu 10.04 64bit, Firefox, and Chrome
and I get an error.

Here is my procedure:
Go to: http://www.sa.dk/ao/
Click "Kirkebøger" at upper left.
For me this brings up what I call the java error page,
"Kirkebøger på internettet" Churchbooks on the Internet.
And if you go down about 5 paragraphs there are some
words in red "se vejledning".
If you click on that, it brings up instructions page,
VEJLEDNING I INSTALLATION AF JAVA SOFTWARE.
Here you see that AO needs java.

If you get something different, I would like to know.

I have java.
At terminal I get: ~$ java -version
java version "1.6.0_20"
OpenJDK Runtime Environment (IcedTea6 1.9.13) (6b20-1.9.13-0ubuntu1~10.04.1)
OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM (build 19.0-b09, mixed mode)

Suggestions

Thanks in advance.

you may have to install Oracle's java for this one.
OpenJdk is good but may not be good enough for that page.
here a page explaining how to install Oracle Java on ubuntu.

Cheers :)

Yes, I will install Opera and see if it works.
I understand that it comes with java installed.
I like to work with multiple browsers for special tasks
and genealogy is one.
Maybe this evening.

I may uninstall all java on this laptop.
Then I'll install JRE and see if it works.
I don't know the procedure yet.

Thanks
