Hi all

I did a

sudo update-manager -d

and it's got about a quarter through installing the packages and stopped. It says it's at the step of

Preparing python-gtk2

but it's been like that for ages. I had the terminal window showing and there were periodic messages about could not initialise Gnome, falling back on Dialogue, was gtk2-perl installed [I can't remember them exactly and the window will not now let me scroll up again]

Is there any way out of this except a clean install? (I have everything backed up but there are always some extra work involved in that route).

Many thanks

Dan

Just in case it helps anyone, I did not need to do a clean install. I used the CD and retried the upgrade path from that. That basically worked.

Unity looks great but, for me, is very unstable. I'm back working with gnome and no effects....
