View Full Version : [SOLVED] After upgrade from Xubuntu 11.10 to 12.04, GUI is slow

Hi!

Yesterday I've upgraded from Xubuntu 11.10 to 12.04 and suddenly the GUI is very slow. For example, switching with Alt+Tab from a terminal to Firefox needs about 1.5 seconds. If I click with the mouse to the taskbar buttons, there is no delay. Restoring a program from minimized state either with the mouse or the keyboard also needs more than a second.

Does anyone have an idea how this could happen and what I could do against it?

Best regards,

Michael

hello my friend
I'm not knowledgeable enough to help you efficiently and I'm not using Xubuntu.

but i think upgrading is the key to the answer.
i think your GUI is slow because you've upgraded.
i know you are worried about your installed softwares you can find them here "/var/cache/apt/archives" make a copy of them and reinstall the Xubuntu.

i am using Ubuntu and i tested Ubuntu both 11.10 and 12.04.
12.04 is really faster and better than 11.10 and this made shocked when i saw your title.
i hope your problem to be solved very soon

Hi!, MichiGreat,

Do you have an nvidia video card, or Optimus with an Intel integrated cpu/gpu??

What you describe sounds like one of the problems from a bug in the 295.40 nvidia driver.

Chao!, bogan.

Hi!

Yesterday I've upgraded from Xubuntu 11.10 to 12.04 and suddenly the GUI is very slow. [...]

And today I've installed the fglrx driver and now the GUI is again as fast as a weasel. ;-)
