I was originally just running Win XP, and decided to dual boot Ubunutu 11.10. The installation went smoothly however the grub loader did not install itself. After reinstalling a second time and the loader not appearing, i installed it maually.

upon the restart the grub loader appears, but instead of being able to select an operating system the following shows

[Minimal BASH-like line editing is supported
For the first word, TAB lists possible command completions.
Anywhere else TAB lists the possible completions of a device/filename]
grub>I cannot get to either my Windows installation nor my Ubuntu installation. Running the Ubuntu live cd still loads this screen.

I need to be able to access at least one operating system.
I can still access BIOS(if that's any use)

Your help is much appreciated

You can boot from the live CD, and use the tools it provides to help fix grub. There is an entire help article about it here...

I cannot boot from the live CD. That still brings up this screen.
