Hello,

As I am currently still using Ubuntu 10.04 and with other versions still being supported by Canonical I was wondering what versions other people are (still) using.

For right now, I'm stuck with something pre-12.04 becuase of the errors I get when trying to run it via Live USB. But that is for another (support) thread after this weekend.

Kubuntu 11.04 64-bit (with KXStudio packages) on my studio comp
Kubuntu 12.04 64-bit on my personal laptop
Ubuntu 12.04 32-bit on my developer laptop (System76)

I started with Ubuntu 7.04; moved over to openSUSE for a couple of years; had a brief love affair with Fedora; and ultimately returned back to Ubuntu. I really like the package availability on Ubuntu, but I do like RPM very much.

I agree!

I have been using Ubuntu since Dapper Drake, and Maverick was my fav. version.
I had a couple issues w/ Lucid and Audigy sound cards, and just yesterday I downgraded my Precise 12.04 , (formatted over it).

I had to because Precise 12.04 had more errors and crashes than I could tolerate, and almost constant nearly 100% CPU usage even with nothing open.
Although It may be ok if I bought a brand new computer for it?, but I just gave my new computer away to my sister.

The box I tried Precise on only had 2 GB RAM and an AMD64 3700+ though, but,
I have Fedora 16 and openSUSE 12.1 running on it great though, SUSE even ran good with kde desktop from the live CD, though I installed the Gnome 3x desktop for it, (still haven't fixed that) can't put anything on desktop with that so... I will install a better desktop after while, or tomorrow maybe, but Natty works ok on it.

I Still have two Maverick 10.10 installs, and still use them, for some stuff, but like I said earlier, 10.10 was my fav. Ubuntu version of all time (so far), so I couldn't vote in the above poll.

I just installed 10.04 LTS via Wubi on my laptop.

I didn't go with 12.04 because this system's purpose is to run a web server and internet bridge from others' coming through the wire and connecting to the local wi-fi for internet.

While I don't remember the details of how to do it right now, I am pretty sure I documented it from when I did the same thing last year (w/10.04). So rather than risk uncertainty with 12.04 (since I'm running this Saturday) I went with the tried and true.

Chances are I'll replace it with 12.04 LTS for next year(s) when I have a chance to tinker with it and make sure it works as I want it to.

For the machines I have that run *buntu, I use the LTS releases for production computers/VMs. I install the other versions of *buntu on test machines. I currently have one production machine running Ubuntu 12.04 with the Xfce DE installed. After 12.04.1 is released I will migrate my other *buntu 10.04.4 machines to 12.04.1; however, I don't know what DE I will decide on using.

I'm pleasently supprised that 12.04 holds the majority share, this is in stark contrast to propietory operating systems, it's also good to see in light of the controversy concerning Unity.

Actually had to select two in this poll, as I run two computers. My desktop is currently running 11.10, but not for much longer as I'm going to do a clean install of 12.04 very soon after I repartition my Linux spaces.

My netbook is already running 12.04, having performed an upgrade rather than a clean install. So far it's working pretty okay. Haven't run into any post-upgrade problems yet.

And both run regular Ubuntu.

I just wanted to know what version people were using not bothered about which DE they are using.

With the recent release of 12.04 I wanted to see how popular the previous (supported) versions were (are).

For those wanting to know what version of Gnome people are using I have also created another poll. http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1970526&highlight=Gnome+poll

12.04 LTS. Brand new install and relatively new user. I tried 9.04 when it was released a few years ago but found that Ubuntu didn't quite do what I needed it to do. But I have recently decided to try 12.04 LTS and found that it now works just as well if not better than windows 7 on my machine. Now if only I could convince the rest of the family to give Ubuntu a try on their computers...

I see many reasons why I believe it is a good idea to wait on 12.04.1 to come out on August 23rd. I have jumped in to fast before
and learned my lesson.

Just wondering if at that time it would be good to just do an upgrade or a clean install from 10.04.
I have read where it will be presented to me in an update when 12.04.1 is released.
I have done both but, ended up doing a clean install after an upgrade.
My entire Ubuntu OS takes up < 30GB.

I have a friend who has stuck with 10.04 LTS for all of this time, and after trying 12.04 LTS is happily upgrading all of his systems.

I've gone to Xubuntu 12.04 which is pretty nice but I suspect I'll really need to try 12.04 w/Unity for all its goodies though I cannot run it live due to the PAE part in the kernel (Xubuntu and Lubuntu are keeping this out since it effects older systems comprise a fair amount of their users).

I've been trying out Linux Mint 13 Maya Mate on another partition which is basically 12.04.
It even has ubuntu and precise listed in many or most of the repository names.
I'd rather poke myself in the eye with a fork than switch over to that!
I may just hang onto Ubuntu 10.04 until it nears EOL in 2013.
I don't like Unity or Gnome 3 either one. I hope it improves immensely.
IMO Lucid is the best thing Ubuntu ever put out.

Jokes aside, I have a laptop touchpad. Precise clicking is difficult, to say the least. So I much prefer stroking, keyboard shortcuts, and yes, big icons.

I upgraded to Xubuntu 11.10 last weekend because I wanted to set up my HP printer and under 10.04 it wouldn't use both ink cartridges at the same time so thinking that a newer version would be improved I upgraded only to find that the printer driver would still only use the colour cartridge even when printing black. Now I have it setup as a mono printer because most documents I print only use black anyway.

With support for 10.04 coming to an end April 2013 and with the large amount of updates I would need to get it to how I had it before removing it, I'll stick with 11.10. Might upgrade to 12.10 because I like the look of XFCE 4.10.

Trying out Xubuntu 12.04 on a separate partition and it's looking a lot better. I don't like Unity or the way it had the buttons on the left.
When I installed XCFE 4.10, it turned Ubuntu into Xubuntu with the buttons on the right like I am accustomed to.

If any one is interested, I updated the How to in my sig. to tri-boot Lucid, Precise and Windows 7.
And I know about the grub customizer but, this method is totally maintenance free once it is setup.
It doesn't matter when a kernel is added to either 'buntu. The menu does not change and never will have to be touched.
