I recently did a fresh install of Ubuntu onto new disk partitions. So, my old 12.04 installation, which I had been upgrading since Beta1, was "extra". I decided to use it to take XFCE for a spin.

I encountered a big problem from the beginning. When I open an Xterm session, either by right clicking on the desktop or by selecting from the main menu, it opens but it has no prompt nor can I type anything into it. I can resize it, close it, maximize it, etc. I just cannot type commands into it. It is not a keyboard problem, because I am typing this into Firefox right now.

Has anyone seen this before and does anyone know how to fix it?

Tim

Never mind. I found another terminal program in the System menu, called UXTerm. I ran it and got a usable command prompt. Then I tried the regular Xterm again, and it now works. I have no idea what is going on, but the problem has gone away.
