Doing a fresh install along side existing install

I have Kubuntu 11.10 installed on my machine. I bought an SSD today and want to do a fresh install of Kubuntu 12.04 on the new disk and then transfer over files. Ive burnt a 12.04 Live CD but when I try to install, I only get the option to run Kubuntu, not install. And then I get a blank screen and a lot of CD player noise.... Maybe its not possible to do this?

How would I go about erasing my previous install?

I think it was a nvidia graphics issue. Ended up going with an alternate install cd. When I got it installed, graphics were all messed up but reverting to the old driver resolved the issues.
