I Upgraded from 11.10 to 12.04 via USB thumb drive since I didnt have internet at the time, and everything went smoothly. When I logged back in, everything was reset to unity, my Gnome interface was gone, along with many of my programs, when I tried to reinstall some of them, a messages said they were incompatible, most notably with Chrome. Skype, chrome, spotify,VLC,and wesnoth all dissapeared to name a few as well as my install of Bumblebee for nvidia optimus. Other programs I had downloaded were still there however, such as hedgehogs and Wine.

Is there any way to get my settings and programs back without re installing everything?

Thanks for any help

System specs:
Intel i3
4GB RAM
500GB HDD
Dual Boot Windows 7 and Ubuntu
Optimus hybrid video cards

Did you do an upgrade or do a clean install?

Clean install overwrites everything. Either way applications have to be downloaded as they will be newer versions. The apps you list would not be on install CD/USB so you would have to download from Internet.

Is update still set to install from USB not from Internet? Click on settings, Ubuntu software in update manager. Does it show CD checked?
