It amazes me that the latest release for Ubuntu really didn't make any improvements upon the appearance of Unity. The sidebar is a cool transparent color, yet the top bar and the window borders can't match that style. I think Unity would look so much better if the top toolbar, the window border and the sidebar could all have that transparent color.

If anyone knows of a Unity theme that accomplishes this, I'd love to have it but Google hasn't pointed me in the right direction.

Try with MyUnity (https://apps.ubuntu.com/cat/applications/precise/myunity/).

I installed MyUnity, but all the themes give me a dark background with dark text on the panel. Any solutions?

I have been able to make my top panel and launcher transparent since 11.10.

You need to install CompizConfig Settings Manager (CCSM) and click the Ubuntu Unity Plugin and under the Experimental tab you can adjust the opacity of both the top panel and the launcher.

What windows borders are you talking about? Application window borders? They are covered by the theme. Not related to Unity at all.

Regards.

Another program that can help is GTK Theme Preferences. It's a simple program that allows you to choose the color of the panel, and menus. Using that, and CCSM I've managed to get the black transparent look consistent across the panel, launcher, and menus.
