I had problems with ubuntu aplenty so far (using it for about 4 years now...

But this time the update to 12.04 borked halfway....no further responce...
Left with a dead not funtioning half upgrade.

Installed cleanly using the update and erase previous version....got grub rescue so no joy there...

Then installed manually all well untill critical error cannot install GRUB...

I've had it, upgrading or instaling shouldn't be this bloody painfull and it's a damn dell studio 17 laptop not something exotic.

I'm having a problem where in Xubuntu or Lubuntu it will get to about 50% copying files and Ubiqity will crash and go to the livecd desktop. Can someone help?

What did you try to update from? 11.10 or older? Hardware specs? I mean, I know you are upset, but this is a free and open sourced OS. Even so, I've had trouble with every OS I've ever used, from Windows to OS X. Even when using Windows, it's often highly recommended that you do a clean install vs an upgrade. You HAVE to if you are going from XP to 7. OS X does a decent job, but then Apple drops support for your Mac revision and then you are stuck where you are at.
