View Full Version : [ubuntu] 11.10 -> 12.04 fails

I just upgraded from 11.10 to 12.04. Everything installed fine, but when it boots up, it says that Compiz has crashed. Any fix for this?

And i install 12.04 fresh.

Does it get you to a usable desktop except that Compiz is not working, or can you not use your DE at all?

I can move the mouse around and make new folders and stuff, but it says Compiz has crashed and I can't switch users.

Do you have nvidia graphics? I understand the proprietary nvidia driver that ships with 12.04 won't handle Unity 3D (the default desktop). When you get to the lightdm login screen try choosing Ubuntu 2D instead. Or simply use the command line to install a less demanding desktop like XFCE and wait until Ubuntu sorts out its driver issues.
